Sylvester known as Ves, came west with his parents (Mr. & Mrs. Soloman Akers) at the age of five settling in Cass County Missouri. At the age of 17 he teamed across the plains for three years, then farmed up until the Civil war. He married Melvina A. Parsons. In 1862 he enlisted under General Shelby and was at Wilson's Creek, Prairie Grove, and was with General Price on his raid thru Missouri. He went to Kentucky with William Quantrill and was captured April 1865 near Harrodsburg. He was placed in jail in Lexington and then Louisville. After the war he farmed near the Six Mile Baptist Church, just west of Buckner, Missouri. In 1879 he went to Leadville, Colorado and engaged in freighting but returned to his farm in 1880. He attended the Quantrill Partisan Ranger reunions after the turn of the century. He passed away early Sunday October 20 1912 from Jaundice.
