Pardee King Meets Death Saturday
Morning, Following Injuries Sustained
at Abbotsford.
Pardee W. King of Abbotsford, formerly of this city, was fatally injured about six o'clock Last Saturday morning
while attempting to make a coupling on a train in that village. In making the coupling he was either caught between the cars or was thrown down, his hip and side being
crushed. A special train was immediately made up to take the injured man to the Marshfield hospital, but he
died at Romeo and the train with the remains returned to Abbotsford.
The deceased was born at Stockton, this county, on the 18th of September, 1873, and was therefore in the forty fourth year of his age. He came to Stevens Point about twenty-four years ago, where he made his home for a number of years. On the 2nd of January, 1899, he was married at Medford to Miss Hattie Blood of this city.
Mr. King was employed as brakeman on the Wisconsin Central and Soo railroad for twenty-one years. Elmer Tardiff, an early friend of the deceased, met death in practically the
same way as Mr. King at nearly the same place in the Abbotsford yards about eighteen years ago.
The deceased is survived by his mother, who lives in Chippewa Falls, his wife and six children as follows:
Mae, Dorothy, Ruth, Charles, Harriet and Grace, all of Abbotsford. He also leaves one brother. Charles of Mellen,
and two sisters, Mrs. Alex Ireland of Abbotsford and Mrs. Harry Hicks of Chippewa Falls.
The body was brought to this city yesterday morning on Soo line train No. 6, accompanied by the widow and children and the brother and sisters of the deceased. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the
home of F. J. Blood on Normal avenue in charge of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Rev. E. Croft Gear of
the Church of the Intercession officiating. Hvmns were sure by Miss Kate Ball and Mrs. T. H. Hanna. The remains
were laid to rest in Forest cemetery.
Those from out of the city who attended the funeral were the mother of the deceased and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hicks of Chippewa Falls. Mrs Joseph Palicka and Mrs. John Finkelson of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Crosby of Fond du Lac and Frank Blood Sr. of Dancy. The last name is the father of Mrs. King.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
