Jay DeLashmit, 48, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009, unexpectedly at his home.

Jay was born in Greenfield, Indiana, and graduated from Greenfield Central High School in 1979. He joined the United States Air Force and proudly served as a security policeman for 13 years. He was stationed at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, Texas, Suwon Air Base in Korea, Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois, and High Wycombe Air Station in High Wycombe, England, and Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. He also traveled to many other locations during his Air Force career, including Turkey, Iraq, Germany, Cuba, and countless locations throughout the United States. Jay was medically retired from the Air Force in 1996, and began his career as an Internet Technology Manager, thanks to the Veterans Administration's Vocational Rehabilitation Program. He started his career with Clear Channel Communications, installing hardware and software at radio stations across the United States. He also was employed by Shore To Shore in Dayton, which allowed him to continue his traveling experiences, working in Sri Lanka, China, India, England, and Guatemala.

Due to health problems, Jay moved to his wife's hometown of Evansville, Indiana, and began a new chapter in his life, closer to a large network of family support. Jay was working to regain his health and establish a new life of helping and supporting his family members in any way he could. Jay enjoyed visiting and assisting his mother-in-law and father-in-law. Jay especially enjoyed watching the Memorial High School football games, and supported the Memorial Wrestling Team.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Kara Ernspiger DeLashmit of Evansville, IN, daughter, Kalah Walker and husband, Brett, of Dayton, OH, brother, Doug (Beverly) DeLashmit of Tucson, AZ, niece, Sara DeLashmit of Tucson, AZ, nephews, Ben Titus of Tucson, AZ, and Ryan DeLashmit of Greenfield, IN, who was recently deployed to Afghanistan, sisters-in-law, Kathie Ernspiger, Sue Ernspiger, Kris Brown, and Kim (Lawrence "Beaver") Mattingly, all of Evansville, IN, niece, Shelley (Patrick) Thompson of Belleville, IL, great-nephew, Tyler Thompson of Belleville, IL, nephews, Frank, Sam and Daniel Mattingly and Nathan Brown, all of Evansville, IN, niece, Emma Mattingly of Evansville, IN, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Daniel and Nell Ernspiger of Evansville, IN.
