He was employed by Belknap Hardware in Louisville for 24 years before moving to Evansville in 1964. Prentice installed the first computer system at Deaconess Hospital from 1964-1969.
He and his wife owned and operated Custom Data Company from 1973 to 2000.
Prentice was a member of Old Tyme Auto Club, First Baptist Church, and The Indiana Baptist Foundation. He directed choir at Calvary Baptist Church and Vann Avenue Baptist Church.
His hobbies included sports, antique cars, and baking. He also enjoyed competing in local senior games.
Prentice was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ethington, and brother, W. Howard Ethington.
He is survived by his daughter, Olivia Yates of Evansville; sons, Prentice Ethington III and wife, Maggie, of Tuscon, Ariz., and James Ethington and wife, Terri, of Evansville; grandchildren, Cindy Alexander, Kim Stolte, Jenny Ethington, Benjamin Yates, Jessica Albright and Lindsay Meniz; and 13 great-grandchildren.
