NOTE: members of the Dreisbach-Dresbach Family Association have purchased new tombstones for both Magdalena's and her husband's, Jacob's, gravesites. The broken stone for Magdalena has been preserved and straightened. Her replacement tombstone was dedicated in August, 2023.

Baptisms in New Jersey at Musquenickung and Raritan:
BOCK, Maria Magdalena, dr Hans Jurg and Christian;
b. Mar 15;
bapt. Sept 28, 1757
sp. Jacob Metzger and wife Maria Anna Apollonia
This appears to be Magdalena who married Jacob Dreisbach.

Daughter of Johann Georg Buchs and Christina Metzger. Magdalena died in Ohio, but it could have been in Fairfield Co. (where her son, Jonathon lived) or in Pickaway Co. (where her other sons lived...including George, who lived just across the county line road from Jonathon). It could also have been Ross Co., as her son, Martin, lived in Colerain Twp., and so did her daughter, Anna Maria Pontious. It looks like she is in the household of Martin in the 1830 Census - the only Female Dresbach aged 70-79 in 1830 that we have found.

Md. 1775, Lewisburg, Northumberland Co., PA, to Jacob Dreisbach (Treisbach). Jacob is buried at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ Cemetery, Lewisburg, Union Co., PA.

In her son's (Jonathan's) ledger, he used the name Leadiah, instead of Magdalene or Magdalena as it is listed everywhere else. "Family record of Jonathan Dresbach and of his father and
mother - Jacob Dresbach was born in the year ____ on the ____ (unreadable).
Jacob Dresbach departed this life June the 21st in the year of our
Lord 1804.
Leadiah Dresbach was born March the 15th in the year 1759.
Leadiah Dresbach departed this life on the 15th day of February
1836, aged 78 years 11 months.
Lived with her husband 29 years and 3 months and a widow 31 years 7 months and 24 days and had 14 children - 9 sons and 5 daughters and at her death had 108 grandchildren and 46 grate grandchildren." (Spelling is original)

The calculation from Jonathan's ledger for the Marriage date of Jacob and Magdalena is March, 1775.

Inscription

What is written on her headstone is a verse of a Hymn by Isaac Watts #II.110:
God my Redeemer lives,
And often from the skies
Looks down and watches all my dust,
till He shall bid it rise.
