Mary Lee was the youngest child of Bertha Lee Fleming and Edward Jerome Houck. She was the baby of the family and her older brother and sisters always spoiled her. After graduating from Morganton High School, she worked as a receptionist at Grace Hospital and as a secretary at Bonn Buick before becoming a bank teller, a job that she held for more than 30 years. Mary Lee was good-humored and outgoing, and loved her family. She married Clyde Pollard when she was 40 years old, and they were married for nearly 39 years.

Vivacious and headstrong, Mary Lee was usually the life of the party. She loved her family, and holidays were big events for her. She bought presents for everyone, including family pets. The house was always decorated and traditions carried on.

She enjoyed taking senior tours, but also loved RV camping at Lake James. She and her husband were a well-known sight at the lake, riding the coves in their old yellow pontoon with a dog acting as lookout.

In addition to her husband, two sisters, Ruth (now deceased 2007) and Betty Jo (now deceased 2007), survived. She was preceded in death by sisters Lena Juanita, Myrtle, and by a brother,William. Her many nieces and nephews also miss their beloved "Aunt 'E".

Before her health failed, Mary Lee sometimes posted on Find A Grave as "Lena's Little Sister".
