Melissa Dobell, direct descendant of Dominie Douglass, and Enoch Phillips were married on October 2, 1859 at Bradford, Wisconsin. They moved to Minnesota where they resided several years.
Enonch Phillips was born March 15, 1835 at Claybed, New York, Calarajgus County. He was a farmer by occupation. Son of Joseph and Luorettia Phillips.
At the age of nearly thirty years, he enrolled February 8, 1864 at Centreville, Minnesota and was enlisted into the service February 16, 1864 at St. Paul, Minnesota as a private of Company H, 1st. Minnesota Heavy Artillery. He served under Captain James B. Atkinson for Twenty-two months, the duration of the Civil War. He was mustered out with the company and Honorably discharged as a private December 18, 1865 at Marshal, Tennessee.
He moved his family to Montana in 1896. They lived on the east shore of Flathead Lake with their son Glen. When he was seventy-six years old they went to live at the Soldier's Home at Columbia Falls, Montana. He died September 16, 1914 and was buried in the cemetary at the Home.

The funeral of Grandma Melissa Phillips, who died at the Soldiers Home last Saturday afternoon, was held at the Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon at 2 P.M. Rev. G.M. Fischer officiating. The misses Walchi and Lockhart and messrs. Bruce and Buck accompanied by Miss Bates sang hymns.
The bearers were Robert Pauline, Harry Buck, J. Roe, James A. Dawson, Robert Flagg, J.E. Donaldson, and Edward Veal. Interment was at the Soliers Home Cemetery.
At the church the Lady Order of Owls added to the funeral service from their ritual and at the cemtery a ritualistic burial service was read by Royal Neighbors, concluding with a final prayer and commital services by Rev. Fischer. The funeral was under the direction of Sherman and Son.

After living there for several years she with her husband and two children moved to the state of Minnesota where they resided during the civil war. Mrs Phillips heroically braved the battle of hardships and poverty while her husband was at the front in the Civil War. In 1896 the family came west to Flathead county and since May 10, 1910 she has resided at the Soldiers Home. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters and three sons.
