Boldridge was a renowned horse trainer. He lived in the late 1800s and early 1900s, the age of horses.

Boldridge did not train race or work horses. He trained horses for carrying people and pulling wagons. This made Boldridge an important black man in a time of deep segregation.

Boldridge died at age 49 of acute tuberculosis. He was buried in the prestigious pioneer section of Woodlawn. The reason for that honor was that he was held in "high esteem" by leading Independence businessmen, according to historians. Boldridge was liked so much that many Independence businesses closed so that the owners could attend his funeral.
