Leonard W. Cumming, 77, former employee of the county of the county road commission and salesman for the Port Huron Engine & Thresher Co., 40 years died Wednesday in his home, 1014 Beard Street, after a brief illness.
Mr. Cumming was born in Allegan, Mich. May 28, 1867 and had been a resident of Port Huron 60 years. He married Margaret Young, in oscoda, Sept. 7, 1892.
He was a graduate of Allegan High school; a life member of Pine Grove Lodge, No. 11, F & A.M., an alderman from the eleventh ward several years, and an employee of the county road commission 15 years before his retirement in 1940, and a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and Modern Woodmen of the world.
He is survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Frank J. Wittliff, Port Huron; a son; Walter C. Cumming, Detroit, four grandchildren Major William W. Wittliff, commanding officer of the Army Air force base at Baltimore, Md; James Witlitt, and Mrs. Donald Armstrong, both of Port Huron; and David Cumming, Detroit, A brother Walter A. Cumming, and a sister Miss Matilda Cumming, both of Port Huron and a great grand son, Bill Wittliff, Baltimore, MD.
The remains are in the Kipp funeral rome where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. Very Rev. Dean Austin E. Duplan, rector of Grace Episcol church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
Major Wittliff and his family will arive here Friday to attend the Services.
