Mr. Edwin Grabill Eiker, 67, of 250 Carroll Parkway, Frederick, died Monday evening, June 19, at his home. He was the husband of Elinor Carey Eiker.
Born Aug. 3, 1932, in Frederick, he was a son of the late Walter Edwin and Edith Marie Cromwell Eiker.
Mr. Eiker was a graduate of Frederick High School and the University of Maryland.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from December 1952 until May 1955.
He had been employed with the Frederick County Department of Social Services for 20 years, retiring August 1991.
He was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Frederick, having served on the Administrative Board and Board of Trustees of the church, and was a member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and the Missions Committee.
Active in church music, Mr. Eiker was a member of the Chancel Choir for over 30 years, the Gospel Choir for 15 years and the Gospel Quartet, and the couples class of Calvary Sunday school.
Also active in the Frederick County music scene, he was a charter member of the Frederick Catoctones, a member of the Friends Are Four Quartet and the Gladetones of Walkersville.
He was a volunteer with the College View Nursing Home Auxiliary, and a life member of Friends of Baker Park, and Korean Veterans Association 142, Frederick.
He was an avid organic gardener, a jogger, and was known as "Mr. Do It Yourself."
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, John Alan Eiker and wife Michele of Richmond, Va.; one brother, Walter Cromwell Eiker and wife Jean of Frederick; his brother-in-law, Richard L. Carey and wife Jeanne of Valrico, Fla.; four grandchildren, Paul Robert Eiker, Rachel Carey Eiker, David Alan Eiker and Daniel E. Eiker; two nephews, Charles A. Eiker and Joseph L. Carey; and one niece, Jan MacGillivary Scott.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 133 W. Second St., Frederick. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
