There, he used the pseudonym of Peter Howard. He retired to Woodstock, New York, where he wrote and produced plays for local theatre. He is best remembered for the script, with Epstein Brothers, of the classic "Casablanca" (1942). Other films he wrote were "The Sea Hawk" (1940), "The Letter" (1940) and "Letter from a Unknown Woman" (1948). He is often confused with the director and producer Howard W. Koch.
