Army Spc Rowe was assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky. Killed when a piece of shrapnel or shell hit an exposed area of Brandon's chest just under the arm, an area his protective vest didn't cover. Brandon joined the Army to help pay for college but found a mission and grew into a man. He was so proud of what he accomplished; he was a very caring, sensitive person. He was always smiling; everybody liked him because he was just fun to be around. Rowe's father, Milton Rowe, had once tried to talk his son out of joining the 101st Airborne Division. He said "Son, why don't you join one of the other services?". ''He said 'Dad, somebody has got to do the dirty, hard work.''' Brandon was an Army specialist and machine gunner who was trained to rappel from Black Hawk helicopters.
