Jerry "Pat" Squire was born and raised in Corcoran, California. He spent his early years doing all the things boys do, playing baseball, hunting and fishing with his dad, and enjoying small town life. He also worked hard on his grandfather's ranch, raising crops of cotton every summer. Pat approached life with a sense of fun and enjoyment. He did have a bad temper, and his brother, Rick (who was also his best friend), was a tormenter that knew exactly how to "push his buttons" with sometimes funny results. Pat also baked the best chocolate chip cookies, ever, a baking trait all believed he picked up from his mother, Jan. He loved the game of baseball, both to watch and to play. Many springs found him and his brother, Rick, playing on the same Babe Ruth league and coached by their dad, Jerry.

He joined the army at age 18 and spent 10 years as a soldier for our country. After leaving the military, he returned to his hometown, where he worked as a mechanic. He and his wife had three children, Beth, Jerry II, and Jennifer.

On August 5, 1986 (Jennifer's birthday), Pat was fueling his truck with propane. For unknown reasons, the full valve on the tank failed. At some point, Pat had become unconscious, and the fuel overflowed. Pat was found, covered in the frozen fuel and rushed to the burn unit with "frostbite" over most of his body and his internal organs. He died three days later.
