Ples J. Richardson (PJ) was born to Ples and Lou Richardson, one of 12 children. In 1948, he married Vera Claudene Simpson, and they had 5 children: James David, Michael Duane, Claudia Diane, Linda Darlene, and Susan Denise. Claudia passed away in 1965. PJ was a farm foreman and was considered an expert at growing and picking cotton. He had a terrific sense of humor, was devoted to his family, and was considered a loyal friend. In 1969, he suffered a heart attack and permanently retired in 1973. After retirement, he moved from the San Joaquin Valley to Lompoc, CA with his wife and daughter Susan. There he spent his retirement days fixing bicycles, learning to be a "house-husband" and enjoying his growing brood of grandchildren. He and his wife spent time together doing things they enjoyed, taking trips and attending special concerts and theatre. He passed away the day before his 54th birthday. The photograph of the tree shrouded in misty fog, was taken on the day dad's ashes were buried. This is an area of private property, on the first farm where he ever worked after he came to California. The location of this farm is outside Corcoran, CA. The owner of the property graciously allowed us to bury dad's ashes there, returning him to the soil he worked at so diligently. It was a fitting tribute to his skill as a farm foreman and to the fondness held for him by so many, including the man who owns and operates this farm.
