James W. Higbee, Sr., age 79 of Macomb, died on Saturday, May 21, 2011.
He was born October 5, 1931 in Detroit, to the late Beeler and Lillian Jenne Higbee, Sr.
On June 30, 1972 he was united in marriage to the former Ruthann K. Tucker. Together they celebrated their 38th Wedding Anniversary.
He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Higbee was employed as a lineman for Detroit Edison for over 39 years retiring in 1989. He was a member of their Men's Club and IBEW Local #17. He and his wife spent winters in Florida. Onaway, Michigan was a frequent destination to spend time at their cottage, 4 wheeling on his ATV, and doing repairs for himself and others.
He is survived by his wife Ruthann, three daughters, and one son. He was grandfather of six grandchildren. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was the beloved "owner" of a Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever cross, Jamie. Jamie went everywhere Jim went. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lorene Higbee, son James Higbee, Jr., siblings Elizabeth and Patricia Higbee, Dorothy Maben and Dean Higbee.

We met Jim and his sweet wife when we moved into our new home in 2005. Every Winter they would spend the Winter months here in Pasco County. They lived right across the street from us. Both Jim and his wife became dear friends. Jim was a genuinely nice man who was always ready to help out and a lot of times he would do things for you and surprise you. He was one of the friendliest men I have ever known. He will be missed by all who's life he touched.
Jim was someone who loved to get along with everyone. He had a great sense of humor too. He was just a really good guy. He had such an easy going personality. He was rarely idle. He was always doing something around his house or doing something for someone else. He did it from the kindness of his heart and never expected anything in return.
He remembered every birthday and every Christmas. He was just a genuinely nice man. He had a Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever cross named Jamie. Our dogs would sometimes play together. He always remembered all our dogs and truly liked them especially our Pitbull Jack.
He knew how maligned Pitbulls are in the media so he made it a point when the topic of dogs came up, to let them know how he knew the nicest Pit in Florida, he was pals with his dog. He wanted to make sure people did not assume all dogs of one breed were bad. That is the kind of guy Jim was.
The world lost a real nice guy.
He was a great family man. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his loved ones. Everyone liked Jim on our street. I don't know how but he could befriend the grumpiest of neighbors. He was just likable.
He will be truly missed.
