Casper was the son of John and Mary Branner Arehart. He was also survived by brothers George, Isaac, William (serving in the same unit as Casper), and Naason Arehart (also in the same unit & killed in 1865), and sisters Catherine Myers, Elizabeth Branner, Sarah Filtzmoyers and Mary Arehart.
Casper served in 12th Va. Cavalry Co. H in the Civil War. He was killed near Ashland, Va.
