Kodi Rae Maes was called to his heavenly father after a sudden, brief illness. He was born August 1, 1972. He graduated from West Las Vegas High School, attended North Texas State University and the University of New Mexico where he received his BA in music.

He resided in Albuquerque, N.M. where he was employed by Jaguar Precision Machining Company as a mechanical engineer. He was preceded in death by his mother Sheila Allen Salazar, his beloved paternal grandmother, Mary Maes, his maternal grandparents, Clyde Allen and Norma Reece, his Uncle Dennis Maes.


Kodi is survived by his father Leo Maes Jr., and step-mother Barbara Maes, half sisters, Alex and Sara Maes, half brother Seth Salazar, paternal grandfather Elias E. Maes, Great Aunts: Adelina Gonzales, Flora Romero, Uncle Robert and Aunt Lucy Maes and their children, Aunt Dolores and Uncle Arthur Martinez and their children, Aunt Mabel and Uncle Don Cantrell; Cousins: Tina and husband Jackie Leyba and their daughters Marissa and Sonia, Arthur Martinez, Don and Jason Cantrell, Dennis and Daniel Maes, Roberto Maes and wife Lena and their children Matthew, Dominika (his Goddaughter) and Arianna, Crystal Maes and son Luciano, Stella Helvie and son Christian. He is also survived by close and dear friends, Jake Yara Jr., Billy Chavez, Kevin Griego and numerous other friends and extended relatives.

A rosary will be held this evening, May 30, 2007, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. C. John Brasher on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Don Cantrell, Jason Cantrell, Robert Maes, Kevin Griego, Billy Chavez and Seth Salazar. Honorary bearers will be Jake Yara and remainder of his cousins and friends.
