Arlene Emily "T." Hurlbutt was at home when she passed from this life into the embrace of her Savior, Jesus on April 8, 2013. Born in Cayuga, NY on July 24, 1916 to George and Laura Marsh Tavener, she rode the NY Central train daily to Seneca Falls and graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1934. She went on to attend Syracuse University. She married the love of her life, Clarence "Duke" Hurlbutt on November 24, 1937. In her early years Arlene worked for Beacon Milling and for Dr. Leonard Seidenberg. She went on to serve as Secretary to three District Superintendents at Union Springs Central School. She was a life-long member of the Cayuga United Methodist Church and played the organ and piano over a period of 75 years. She enjoyed playing piano and organ duets into her ninties with good friend, Charles Young at the Sheffield United Methodist Church in Sheffield, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by a brother, Don (Thea) Tavener of Cayuga, a son, Rev. Terry (Marge) Hurlbutt of Clarendon, PA, a daughter, Beth (Ray) Mauder of East McKeesport. PA and four grand-daughters, Kris (Mike) Salva of Franklin, TN, Janet (Robert) Curtis of Union Springs, NY, Jenny (Brian) Cameron-Mongell of Austinburg, OH and Lori (Alex) Hornburg of Sheffield, PA, 10 great-grandchildren, Katie, Zach, Kenzie, Lundyn, Emily, Benny, Avri, Lindy, Seeley, Brinley and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Arlene is preceded in death by a brother, Harvey and a sister, Dorothy Bartley. A service celebrating her life was held at the Cayuga United Methodist Church. Interment is in the Lakeview Cemetery (Cayuga).
