Clarence "Duke" Hurlbutt acquired his nickname while working in his early years at Mackins Clothing Store in Seneca Falls, New York and being a rather "snappy dresser" as a result. He owned a small grocery store across from the Cayuga station in the late 1940's. He was the assistant manager at the Beacon Poultry Research Farm until 1973 when the farm closed. He served as a custodian at the Cayuga Elementary School until his retirement. He was an active member of the Cayuga United Methodist Church and a former chief of the Cayuga Volunteer Fire Department. He was always a kind and generous man, a good friend and a loving husband and father.
He is survived by a sister, Leora Withers of Bradenton, FL, a son, Rev. Terry (Marge) Hurlbutt of Bradford OH, a daughter, Beth (Ray) Mauder of East McKeesport. PA and four grand-daughters, Kris, Janet, Jenny and Lori Hurlbutt also of Bradford, OH.
A service celebrating his life was held at the Cayuga United Methodist Church.
Interment is in the Lakeview Cemetery (Cayuga).
