"Richard Savage Hubbard, 89, retired Merrill businessman, died in his sleep Friday in his home at 130 North Monroe St. in Merrill.
He was born Sept. 17, 1889, in Iowa. He spent his childhood in Minnesota.
In 1947, he married LaVerda Marion of San Diego, Calif., in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Merrill in 1948, where he managed a motel for two years.
He then purchased Hubbard's garage, which he operated until his retirement in 1973. His two major hobbies were hunting and fishing and he was very active in local politics.
He was a master mason of Unity Lodge No. 130 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Mr. Hubbard is survived by the widow, LaVerda of Merrill; step-daughters La Vonda Northcult of San Diego and Chloris Wilkes of Long Beach, Calif., step-son Owen Marion of San Marcos, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be announced later. Those wishing to do so may contribute to the American Cancer Society."

Spokesperson from O'Hair & Riggs Funeral Chapel, Klamath Falls, Oregon verified that the parents for this Richard Hubbard were Norman Henry Hubbard and Emma Jane Brown.
