Ruby Alene Alexander passed away Sunday July 22, 2007 in Austin with her family by her side. Mrs. Alexander was born on August 7, 1930 in Temple, Texas, to Molly Robbins and Wallace Adams.

She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved sister Armilda Byrd.

Mrs. Alexander was married to George J. Alexander Sr. on June 6, 1963 in Austin. Mom graduated from Georgetown High School in 1950 and worked as a phone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Austin Police Department. She also worked as a care attendant at the Austin State School caring for mentally challenged children and grew quite close to the residents, especially Rosetta Johnson. Mom was baptized in the Church of Christ and believed in the Lord. She was a homebody but enjoyed people, especially helping anyone who needed it, with everything from clothing, food, shelter, or just an ear to talk to. Mom and my aunt Armilda always believed in family and we always celebrated holidays, birthdays, or any reason just to get together and have good food, which is something that as their children, we have good memories to share.

Mother of Georgia Norman, Darlene Thomison, Vivian Creel and George Alexander Jr. Grandmother to Courtney and David Norman, Anthony Thomison, Clifton Earl, and Tammy Creel, Nathan Alexander.

She is also survived by five great-grandchildren four nieces, five nephews and her long-time friend Ola Pilgrim.

Visitation was Tuesday July 24, 2007, at Austin Peel & Sons Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 25, 2007 at the IOOF Cemetery in Georgetown. [Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 7/25/2007.]
