Obituary: Sun Gazette.com, 15 Mar 2008. Mr. Thomas L. Childs, 96, South Williamsport native and long time resident of the 600 block of South Howard Street, South Williamsport, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville.
Mr. Childs was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was awarded an honorable discharge for his service to our country. He had been a member of the Royal P. Steinbacher Post #617, American Legion, at South Williamsport. Mr. Childs was also a member of the 40 et 8, Lycoming Voiture #382, at Williamsport.
Mr. Childs was a member of the graduating Class of 1929 of the South Williamsport High School. He had also attended the former Williamsport Commercial College from 1929 thru 1931.
Tom was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #15 (Elks) at Silver Spring, Md., and was also a member of the National Institute of Standards Alumni Association.
Tom had been employed by the United States National Bureau of Standards for 27 years at Washington, D.C.
Mr. Childs was preceded in death by his late wife, the former Elvirta E. Morgret Childs on January 10, 1991. They were married on November 14, 1941 at Danville, and had observed 49 years of marriage at the time of the death of Mrs. Childs.
Born March 19, 1911 at South Williamsport, Tom was the son of the late Harry W. and Elina R. Miller Childs.
Surviving are his sister-in-law, Miss Rachael Morgret at Farrandsville, and his nephew, Russell Toner, address unknown.
Graveside funeral services and committal services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at Montoursville Cemetery, Montoursville. Father Thomas P. Reeder, Rector at Christ Episcopal Church, Williamsport, will officiate. There will be no visitation. Flowers will be provided.
Arrangements are being direct by Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.
