Leo Fanning, 88, of Friendship Haven, died Wednesday morning at Trinity Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Chapel on the Hill at Friendship Haven, with the Rev. Ron Kitterman, chaplain at Friendship Haven, officiating. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday at the Chapel on the Hill. Gunderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include sons, the Rev. Allen Fanning, Shelbyville, Ill., Robert Fanning, Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Rev. David Fanning, San Leandro, Calif.; daughters, Genie Grimm, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mary Wright, Nevada; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother, Floyd.
He was born April 5, 1904 at Nemaha where he attended school and graduated from Nemaha High School in 1922. He married Gladys Roberts on 5 Oct 1927 at Rolfe. The couple farmed in Northwest Iowa until moving to Nevada in 1960. They moved to Ames in 1964 where he worked for the Agriculture and Horticulture Farms at Iowa State University. He retired in 1969. The couple moved to Fort Dodge in 1977, making their home at Friendship Haven. She died in 1990.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be left to the Friendship Haven Care Fund or First United Methodist Church.
