Dr. Sol Asch, 73, of Portsmouth, died Monday at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Asch was past chairman of the Tuberculosis Society of Scioto County and the audit committee for patient care at Scioto Memorial Hospital. He served on the staffs of Scioto Memorial and Mercy hospitals. At Mercy Hospital, he was former chief of staff and director of the cardiac testing laboratory.

A native of Brooklyn. N.Y., Asch attended Columbia University and graduated from The Ohio State University, Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from State University New York, Downstate Medical Center Medical School and did his residency at Kings County Hospital in New York.

Asch began his practice in Portsmouth in 1938. It was interrupted four years later when he left to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of The Ohio State University Medical Society, Scioto County Medical Society, Mercy Hospital Foundation, where he served on the board of trustees, The Ohio State Alumni Society, American College of Cardiology, Elks Lodge and Temple Beneh Abraham.

Surviving are his wife, Matilda Kline Asch, two sons, Andrew Louis of Los Angeles, Calif., and David Anthony of Connecticut, a daughter, Priscilla Asch Hannah of Columbus, and four grandchildren.

Services are to be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Daehler Funeral Home, with Rabbi Stephen Wylen officiating, and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

The family's favorite charities are the Dr. Sol Asch Endowment Fund, Mercy Hospital Foundation and Temple Beneh Abraham Memorial Fund.
