Michael Todd Clark, 40, of Portsmouth, went home to spend eternity with his heavenly Father Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, following a five-week battle with leukemia.

He was born in Portsmouth May 15, 1968, to Paul W. and Diane Sally Clark who survive him.

Mike was a member of the Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene where he grew up, was saved and baptized. He was involved in Children's Church Ministries and Vacation Bible School. He also participated in several dramas at the church. He loved the Men's Bible Study group, and was often found on his knees in prayer, an open Bible in front of him before his workday began early in the morning.

Mike was a 1987 graduate of PHS and a 24-year employee of Portsmouth Bob Evans where he was among the first group hired when the restaurant opened. Mike never met a stranger and many of his regular customers called him "Sunshine." His family seemed to always run into Mike's customers who shared a laugh and story about their visits with Mike at the restaurant.

He had an extensive eagle collection and his favorite scripture was "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

Mike had many interests. He loved to exercise and run in area 5K races, he was a member of the Bob Evans bowling league for many years, and he loved all things "sports." He especially liked the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds. He also enjoyed video games of all kinds and loved to talk sports and cars with his customers and friends.

Mike was a son that anyone would have been proud to have. He brought great joy and happiness to all who knew him.

He is survived by his parents, Paul W. and Diane Sally Clark of Portsmouth; his brother, Adam Clark of Mount Vernon; his grandmother, Lula Sally of Portsmouth; his fiancee, Lola Bolton of Portsmouth; aunts and uncles, Richard and Joan Clark of Sault Ste Marie, Mich., Dave and Bonnie Clark and Dave and Mary McQuay, all of Wheelersburg, and Sharon Daugherty Sally of Columbus; a nephew, Brandon Clark; two nieces, Allison and Morgan Clark; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Martin Sally, Lawson and Ellora Clark; one aunt, Betty Jane Clark DuPuy; and an uncle, William Martin "Marty" Sally.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Rodney Kincaid officiating. The family will receive friends at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service on Sunday. Interment will take place Monday at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Burial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 456 Brown St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.
