David E. Livingston, M.D., 80, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, January 17th. He was born January 7, 1930 to the late William and Sarah Tussey Livingston. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1947. David graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 1951 and the University of Rochester Medical School in 1955. He was a board certified general surgeon and practiced in Portsmouth from 1970 until his retirement in 1993. He was a medical missionary in Kenya, East Africa from 1956-1967. He is survived by his wife Joan Cline Livingston whom he married June 12, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is survived by his children, Timothy (Susan) Livingston, Kenneth (Lori) Livingston and Beth (Jason) Throckmorton. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Anita Sue and his son Dale Andrew Sr., who is survived by his wife Angela. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. William Livingston and Edward Livingston and three sisters, Ruth Porter, Anna Mae Jones, and Dora Hobbs and their spouses. He is survived by his grandchildren: Jason (Stacy) Livingston, David (Jerri) Livingston, Joshua (Jessica) Livingston, Justin (Chonda) Williams, Dale Andrew Livingston, Jr., Kenneth Livingston, Deven Mitchell, Logan Livingston, Hunter Livingston, and Sarah Throckmorton, and his great grandchildren, Jenna, Joy, Cyndi, Emily, Connor, Drew and Noah. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dr. Livingston was a lifelong member of the First Church of God in New Boston, where he gave faithful service as a Sunday school teacher and chairman of the board of trustees. He was a former Chief of Staff of Scioto Memorial, a Gideon, and a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He served on the National Mission Board of the Church of God. After retirement he returned to Kenya on a medical mission trip through Caring Partners. In 2001, he was named Outstanding Physician of the Year by the Scioto County Medical Society. He was an outstanding musician and enjoyed the study of languages. David served the Lord his whole life and was a shining example of Christian love and service. He touched the lives of many and will be missed by all. Services will be 11AM Thursday, January 21, 2010 at The First Church of God in New Boston with Pastor Acy Gibson officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be Wed. 2-4 and 6-8PM at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in New Boston and 10-11AM Thurs. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to The First Church of God, 3920 Gallia St. New Boston, Oh 45662 for African missions. On line condolences to dwswickfuneralhome.com.
