Marjorie A. Staten, 75, of Rosemount, went to be her Lord on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born January 16, 1936 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Norma Francisco Staten and was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio University. She was a teacher for over 4 decades, having taught 34 of those years at Rubyville Elementary, and was a member of the retired teachers O.E.A. and N.E.A. Marge had been an active member of Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene, where she was a board member, devotional secretary for the Ladies Fellowship, choir member, soloist, VBS director, Sunday School Teacher, N.Y.I President, Missionary President and was also a member of the Portsmouth Festival Choir. After retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Clay Local Schools, and enjoyed traveling and shopping, and wanted to catch up on quality reading. Surviving are nephews Paul J. (Susie) Stapleton of Anderson, IN and Kevin E. (Angela) Johnson of Portsmouth, great nieces and nephews, Stacy, Heather, Misti, Kristin, Keileigh, J.R., and Destiny; 3 great-great nieces and 1 great-great nephew, and her beloved cat, "Buster". Also preceding Marge in death were nephews Earl "Butch" Stapleton and Robert Joseph Johnson; brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Don, and Edward "Sonny" Staten and sisters, Marion Johnson, Barbara Jane Birdwell, Opal Stetsigner, and Marcella Staten. A Celebration of Life will be held 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Portsmouth First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ed Simmons officiating. Interment will be 9:00 a.m. on Monday at Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Marge commented regarding her teaching career, "It's been a wonderful, satisfying profession and I feel deeply honored to have been a small part of it for so many years…. Thanks for the memories".
