Craig Joseph Crespino, 45, of Girard, died Friday, July 21, 2006, as a result of injuries received in an accident at the Girard High School football practice field on Friday.

He was born Sept. 23, 1960, in Pittsburg, to Frank and JoAnn (Ferns) Crespino. He attended St. Mary's-Colgan schools and received his bachelor of education degree from Pittsburg State University.

He married Glenna Marie Clark on Jan. 9, 1982, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac. She survives of the home.

He was an assistant coach at Frontenac High School for one year before moving to Girard in 1984 where he was an assistant football coach, track coach, and baseball coach at Girard High School. He became head football coach in 1992 and received CNC League titles in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1999.

He was an assistant Shrine Bowl coach for the east squad in 2000 and head coach in 2001.

He and his family attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Girard and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg.

He was past-president and a member of the Kansas Coaches Association, co-founder of SADD and Student Council Sponsor at the Girard High School, KNEA, NEA, and the GOA group of Girard officials.

Additional survivors include one son, one daughter, his parents of Pittsburg; his grandfather, and one brother.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mable Ferns, and Joe and Nellie Crespino.

The rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at the Frank Jameson Football Field at Girard High School where the family will receive friends following the rosary. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Memorial Auditorium in Pittsburg with Fr. Robert McElwee and Fr. Donald R. Thissen as concelebrants. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
