Velma E. Brubaker, 90, loving wife and mother, died Tuesday morning at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.

She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late Charles and Laura Elizabeth (Weld) Shoop. She married Harry L. Brubaker Sr. April 27, 1940, in Hollidaysburg. He died April 28, 2001.

Surviving are four children: Harry L. Jr. and wife, Vi, of New Enterprise, Lewis B. and wife, Doris, of Roaring Spring, Dale V. and wife, Dorinda, of Roaring Spring RD and Cathy A. Odroneic and husband, David, of Roaring Spring; 10 grandchildren: Harry Brubaker III, Vicki Winegarden and husband, Norm, Brent Brubaker and wife, Jill, Rebecca Marko and husband, David, Angela Smith, Tony Brubaker and wife, Jamie, Autumn

Eicher and husband, Ryan, Chris Moses, Allison Moses and David Odroneic; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jessie Weber; and two brothers: Charles Shoop and wife, Ann, and James Shoop, all of Hollidaysburg.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Cleo Shoop and Vera Shultz; and three brothers: Col. Lewis B. Wilson, Robert Shoop and Roy Shoop.

Velma was a 1937 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She, along with her husband, owned and operated a dairy farm in the Roaring Spring area for many years, and she also assisted her husband in his church ministry duties.

Velma was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, where she was a former deaconess and member of the I-try Sunday school class and Women's Fellowship. She previously taught Sunday school for many years.

She enjoyed Bible study, sewing, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After their retirement, she and Harry enjoyed traveling and camping.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at First Church of the Brethren, 901 Bloomfield St., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, by Pastor Dottie Steele. A private family committal will be held in East Sharpsburg Cemetery.

Contributions in Velma's memory may be given to First Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund.
