Norman C. Amerman, of Big Sky Senior Living, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was born in Butte on April 20, 1923, to Frank and Ida (Coates) Amerman. He attended Butte schools including three years at Montana Tech. Norman married Laura Tebay in Butte on Feb. 2, 1947, and she survives.

Norman worked for Hansen Packing and in the underground mines before entering the Army. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Hansen Packing and then went on to work at Ring Appliance. He worked 14 years in the appliance department at Hennessy's before becoming a Metropolitan Life Insurance agent. He later drove taxi cab and worked in the Safeway Warehouse before going to work in the Berkeley Pit for 20 years until his retirement. Norman was a member of the Bene-volent and Protective Order of Elks No. 240 and Elks Drum and Bugle Corps and a volunteer fireman with the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his wife, Laura, Norman is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Norma Jean and Del David of Spokane, Wash., Judy and Roger "Skip" Tinder of Bozeman, Jennifer and Bruce Geitzen of Kalispell, Joan and Bill Carelli of Butte; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff Amerman and Theresa Hall, Jon Amerman and daughter-in-law, Kelly Amerman, all of Butte; grandchildren, Robert David, Brandi David, Matthew David, Laura David, Misti Tinder, Mandi Streich, Naomie Geitzen, Jessie Geitzen, Nikki Carelli, Cassi Pfister Jake Amerman; and nine great-grand-children.

Norman's remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, where friends may call beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Amy Carter officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Butte Emergency Food Bank or United Congregational Church.
