Eugene was born Nov. 5, 1925, to R. M. (Slim) and Elsie Bauman. He grew up in the Deer Lodge Valley where he spent most of his time at his Uncle Hallie and Aunt Clara Johnson's ranch, south of town. He entered the Marine Corps at the age of 17, and served his country in World War II.
He met his sweetheart, Elsie Speck, while she was working at the Rialto in Deer Lodge. They were married on March 14, 1950. Eugene worked at School District No. 1 until he retired in 1988.
He was a volunteer fireman for 23 years. He led a Bible study at Montana State Prison for 26 years. He loved people and wanted all to share with him his love for Jesus Christ.
He was an amazing man with integrity, who loved to laugh, and was loyal and dedicated to his family and friends. He was passionate for God, his family and the church he was faithful to serve for more than 45 years, serving as a deacon, song leader and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his children, Susan, Cynthia, Timothy, Julie (Rob), Anngie; grandchildren, Brooke, Traci, Dane and Steven, Andrew and Corey; great-grandchildren, Bret, Jacob, Kaden and Vincent; and brothers, Harold (Marvel) Bauman and Charles (Karen) Bauman.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, "Precious," Elsie, his grandson, Chad; and four infant grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at the Deer Lodge Assembly of God.
A joyful celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2007, with his former pastor and friend, the Rev. Ernie Green officiating.
