Subject of a Book. He was a wealthy eccentric who died one of the oldest members of the community. By his death, he had amassed a fortune of $125,000. He did not want anyone locally to know how much money he had so he kept it in a bank in Boston. He would ride his wagon to the city to do his banking, a ride that today, takes over one hour by car. He was famous for having erected this monument before his death for a sum of $1500. His 1995 biography "Phineas Gardner Wright: The man and his monument" was written by Ruth Flagg.
