His mother died a couple of weeks after his birth, on July 16, 1860, leaving Joseph with 9 children ranging in age from 16 to two weeks.
Less than six months later, Joseph married again, on 1 Jan 1861, to Rosanna (Shook) Silvis, widow of Francis Silvis, who had an 8 yr. old daughter, Mary.
The following month, on February 20, 1861, Olvin passed away, and was laid to rest in Beckwith Cemetery.
