Mary Ann was the oldest of 10 children born to Joseph & Lucinda Almira (Wood) Beckwith. She was 17 when little Olvin, the last child, was born, on 29 June 1860. Her mother died about two weeks after his birth.
Her father married again on Jan. 1, 1861, to Rosanna (Shook) Silvis, who had an 8 yr old daughter, Mary. Little Olvin died the following month, on 20 Feb. 1861.
