Scientist. He was a Russian scientist who is considered to be a founder of psycho reflexology. His name is connected to 13 eponyms, the most famous being Bekhterev's disease. He was trained at the Military Medical and Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he began his research into possible relations between body temperature and some forms of mental illness. He was then awarded a fellowship to study and conduct research abroad. In 1895 he returned to Russia to become professor of psychiatric diseases at the University of Kazan. He died suddenly after an interview with Stalin, who presumably sought his expertise in dealing with depression. The facts of his death may never be known, but it has been speculated that Bekhterev had diagnosed Stalin with paranoia, causing Stalin, who did not agree with the diagnosis, to have the doctor killed. After his death, his name and works were deleted completely from the textbooks and scientific literature by Stalin's orders.
