Lonnie Lee Brewer died of cancer in Lakeport on Thursday, April 6, 2006.
Born in Leflore, Oklahoma, on May 5, 1934, he moved with his family to Willits as a child, where he grew up. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Alaska. Upon returning to the San Francisco Bay Area, he enrolled in college, entering the field of banking.
Changing careers, he served as a civilian electrical engineer at Mare Island Naval Yard in Vallejo. Upon retirement he sought his Native American roots, traveling to Oklahoma where the Brewer name was posted on the Cherokee Nation's Trail of Tears. He later moved to
New Mexico and became a cowboy, pursuing a lifelong dream of owning horses and learning the skills of making cowboy boots by hand.
Lonnie is survived by his brother, Jim Brewer of San Francisco; sisters Patricia Stone of Oregon and Sue Harmon of Indiana. Four children and their families also survive. Private interment will be held at the Willits Cemetery on Saturday, August 19. The Willits News
