Broadcaster, Actor. New Zealand's most renowned broadcaster both on Radio, and National TV. Paul grew up in Hawkes bay in the 1950's, studying Law after leaving high school, but changing to the Arts. Getting his early love of being a radio announcer by recording his voice on his home tape recorder in his teenage years, he began his career on radio in Christchurch City in 1972, then traveled to Australia, the United Kingdom America and the Netherlands for a few years, before heading back to New Zealand to take up a morning radio session on Wellington station 2ZB, which was the Government broadcasting service at that time. In 1987, he took up the post of breakfast announcer on 1ZB in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. His growing popularity made Television sit up and take notice of his unique style of broadcasting, and decided to adapt it for a television show featuring current affairs and local news worthy items simply called Holmes. Paul became a Champion for the Para-Olympics, promoting them till he passed. He achieved many accolades over his career, including acting in the Lord of the rings trilogy as an Orc, also as an author, he wrote 2 books both best sellers in New Zealand. Eventually poor health meant that he had to retire from both full time TV and radio. A re-occurrence of Prostate cancer and heart problems in 2012 had Paul looking frail as he received his knighthood just weeks before his passing in 2013.
