Jack was an active member of Methodist Temple for 56 years and held many local and national leadership positions of the United Methodist Church. He was a life board member of Lampion Center; an active member of Evansville Downtown Rotary Club; past president of the Masonic Learning Center for Dyslexic Children; a 50+ year member of Reed Masonic Lodge #316, the Scottish Rite, and Hadi Shrine Temple. Jack was bestowed the 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1987.

Jack received his JD degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1954 and began his 56-year practice of law in Evansville. He received the Doran Perdue Award from the Evansville Bar Association for his work in starting the Evansville chapter of the American Inns of Court. He was a past president of the Evansville Bar Association and a member of the Ethics Committee of the Indiana State Bar Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence VanStone; his mother, Katharine Haas Craddock VanStone; step-mother, Mabel Moffett VanStone; and brothers, Mel Craddock and Howard VanStone.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marty; daughters, Kathryn Kornblum-Zelle (James) of Evansville, Susan Kleindorfer (Mark) of Troy, Illinois, and Ellen Sutton (Kevin) of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Charles VanStone (Sara) of Evansville, Ken VanStone (Janene) of South Carolina, and Paul VanStone (Christina) of Kentucky; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
