The daughter of Joseph and Nancy Jain (Gilpin) Scott, she married Asa Polston on June 17, 1891 in Russell County, Kentucky. They had three children: Balla, Omra and Orvis Polson.

I was not quite two years old when my great-grandmother Polston passed away so my memories of her are not very clear. I know we went to visit her often and my dad (her grandson) loved her dearly.

Her obituary from the August 14, 1958 Russell County News:

Mrs. Della Polston, widow of the late Asa Polston, died at the home of a son, Omra Polston in Shelbyville, Indiana on August 9. A native of Russell County, she had lived at the family home on Parks Ridge until about six years ago when she went to Indiana to be with her children. She was 87 years of age, but had been in excellent health for a person of her age until about 3 weeks ago.

She leaves two sons, Omra Polston of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Orvis Polston of Indianapolis, as well as 17 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Grover Scott of Russell Springs, a sister, Mrs. Clemma Gosser of Illinois.

The remains were brought here and funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11:00 A.M. in the Parks Ridge Church, conducted by Bro. Everett Foster. Burial was at Parks Ridge Cemetery, with H. E. Pruitt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Polston was a member of long standing in the Parks Ridge Church. She had lived a true Christian life through the years, and had made and kept many close friends who join with the members of the immediate family in their grief over her passing.

Gravesite Details

I have been told that her name was Idella Meladora, but have not found that in any records. She was known as Della pronounced Deli by southerners.
