The son of Fern (Sullivan) and Virl Lee Murray. He was the second of five children. His sister, Kay, is the oldest. The other three siblings are brothers, Vance, Dwayne and Wayne, the latter two being twins.

Sam married Kimberly Jeffries on September 29, 1984. They had three children: Dustyn Lee, Samuel Adam and Chelsea Grace.

Sam had brain cancer which sadly took him way too early. But even as he was very ill, he testified of his faith and was an inspiration to many. He was a loving son, brother, husband and father.

His funeral service was held at Reed & Jewell Funeral Home. His brother, Wayne, delivered one of the best eulogies I have ever heard. It made me proud to be his cousin. While everyone was terribly sad for the loss of this young man, his funeral truly was a celebration of the life Samuel Lee Murray led while on this earth and a celebration of the eternal life he had begun.
