Kay Buckman, a vibrant loving soul, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2010.

She was born on Sept. 2, 1944, in Stanford, Texas, to Bill and Mary (Doss) Perkins. Mrs. Buckman graduated from Petersburg High School in 1963, where she was on the girl's all-state basketball team, a cheerleader and a very talented artist. Kay later worked as a counselor at Charter Plains. Prior to receiving her counseling license, she attended Texas Tech University and worked as an airline stewardess for Braniff International, and got to meet many celebrities from the '60s ranging from a very young Sunny and Cher to the heads of many political parties. She found the occupation she loved most after marrying Bill Buckman on April 21, 1983. That is when she excelled as a housewife, cook and Bill's soul mate and helper on the farm. Together, Kay and Bill were avid marksmen, outdoor enthusiasts and followers of Christ. Kay's faith was very strong; she had a chapel in her garden where she prayed. In planning her funeral she said, "I love Jesus and will already be with Him watching over all I love."

Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 27 years, Bill; one daughter, Shea Edwards and husband Jim of Fort Worth; one son, Tyler Edwards of Dallas; one stepson, Rusty Buckman and wife Cheryl of Acuff; one stepdaughter, Debbie Phillips and husband Scott of Indiana; three grandchildren, Ryan Buckman, Casey Buckman and Grace Phillips; and many friends and neighbors who loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations to be made to Hospice of Lubbock, 1717 Norfolk Ave #A, Lubbock, TX 79416; Chorus of Angels at Joe Arrington, 3623 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410.

Formal visitation services will be held this evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at White Funeral Home in Idalou, Texas.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Idalou, with Rev. Phillip Hilton officiating. Interment is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock, Texas.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Idalou.
