Olympic Hockey Coach. He guided the United States Hockey Team to a gold medal during the 1960 Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley. An exceptional hockey player during his collegiate years at Dartmouth College, he served as an aviator with the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his return home, he resumed his hockey accomplishments and captained Dartmouth to a tie of the North American Championship with the University of Toronto. In 1950, he became head hockey coach of the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York and remained at that capacity until 1986. Riley was twice honored (1986 and 2002) with the Lester Patrick Trophy for his contributions to hockey in the United States. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979.
