Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He was a member of the 1960 United States Olympic Ice Hockey team that captured the Gold Medal at the Winter Games held in Squaw Valley, California. He began playing hockey as a child on a neighbor's pond with his brothers, and participated in that sport high school. In 1948, was the youngest member of the United States Olympic Hockey Team team, which participated in the Winter Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland, but did not make the medal rounds, finishing in fourth place. After the 1948 Olympics he played amateur hockey before being drafted to serve in the United States Army in the Korean War. After the war ended, he served as a firefighter in his hometown of Brookline, Massachusetts and also went back to playing amateur hockey. He was chosen again for the United States Olympic hockey team in 1960 and played on the team that won the Gold Medal over Czechosolvakia. He later played on the United States team that played in the 1963 World Championships, but they officially finished last. He later served in the Brookline fire department for 38 years, retiring as a lieutenant. He also remained close to hockey, serving as the manager for Harvard University's Bright Hockey Center. He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1987.
