Obituary - Griffith.
Reuben Griffith was born in the family home in Belle Plaine, Dec. 10, 1890. He died at his home, 2 miles northeast of town, Oct. 15, 1923, aged 32 years, 10 months and 5 days.
His entire life was spent here in this community with exception of the two years of service in the United States Marine Corps during the World War. He enlisted August 29, 1917. Went to France Feb. 6, 1918. He served in the 4th Brigade, 2nd Division. Was in the Battle of Chateau Thierry July 5 and 6, 1918. Returned from France Feb. 22, 1919 and was discharged, May 16, 1919.
His discharge papers make this record:
Military Efficiency - Very good.
Obedience - Excellent
Service - Honest and faithful
He was married to Edna Moore, Sept. 24, 1919. To this union were born two children, Revena, age three, and Yewell Dunbar, age one.
Besides his wife and children he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Yewell Griffith, and by two sisters, Mrs. Marsh Knepple and Mrs. Allen Cheek.
Services were held at the M.E. church Thursday afternoon, Oct. 18, 1923. Rev. Young brought the message. The Legion Quartettes and and eight of the Legion boys were pallbearers. The Legion had charge of the services at the cemetery. Peace be to his memory.
