Basilia Garduno passed away in the loving presence of her family on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at her home. She was 89. Basilia had been a resident of Montrose for the past 59 years. She was born to Jose and Atanacia (Rivera) Garcia on Wednesday, May 28, 1924, in Chaparito, N.M. where she spent her childhood and attended school.

In 1945, Basilia married Estanislado Secondino Garduno in Chaparito, New Mexico. He preceded her in death in November of 1986. Basilia thoroughly enjoyed embroidery, quilting, reading and playing slot machines.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Garduno, Joe Garduno, and Steve Garduno, all of Montrose; six daughters, Dominica Jacquez of Montrose, Dora Velasquez of Montrose, Teresa Snow of Craig, Susie Garduno of Montrose, Sara Garduno of Montrose, and Frances Vigil of Craig; a brother, Rudolfo Garcia of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Isabell Tapia of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Empemenia Lucero of Stocton, California; 28 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Basilia was preceded in death by her husband, Estanislado, and her daughter Mary L'Argent.
