Perry Hardy Griner, 74, of Leesburg, FL passed away on September 27, 2014. Born in Leesburg on July 10, 1940, he was a lifelong resident of Leesburg and graduated from Leesburg High School in 1959. He went to work with his father Alton and brothers Jim and Charles at the family Standard Oil/Chevron station until 1961 when he joined the US Navy where he proudly served his country until 1965. After his service, he went to work for the Daily Commercial, formerly the Leesburg Commercial, starting in the press room, then ad layout and finally the camera room until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, football, auto racing, gardening and had a special love for family gatherings and campouts with his grandsons. Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, whom he married April 4, 1964, Linda of Leesburg; daughter Julie Ann Griner and her husband Paul Demer; son Samuel Hardy and his wife Ashley Newman Griner; grandchildren: Erika Morgan Demer and her husband Michael Poortenga, Ashten Hardy and his wife Kaleigh Foit Griner, Sawyer Hardy Griner, Samuel Hardy Griner and Benjamin Aaron Hardy Griner; great grandchildren: Emily Grace Poortenga, Makayla Ann Poortenga and Penelope Snow Griner; brother Charles "Buddy" and wife Loyce Griner; sisters Shirley Ann Town; Mary Katherine "Sis" Griner; and Eva Hellen "Polly" Rosenbalm; as well as many nieces, nephews and loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alton Hardy and Eva Perry Pearson Griner as well as his brother James A. "Jim" Griner. A visitation will be held in the chapel of Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg on Wednesday October 1, 2014 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 10 AM, with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
