Army Capt. Douglas DiCenzo was killed Thursday, May 25, in Iraq when his Humvee drove over a roadside bomb.
He was the son of Cathy Crane and Larry DiCenzo.
Doug was "a born leader" and company commander in the 1st Armored Division, he went to Iraq in November. He had been stationed in Germany.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, NH, in 1995 and from West Point in 1999. He ranked fifth in his class at Plymouth and was an all-state offensive guard for the state-champion Bobcat football team. As teenagers, both Douglas and his younger brother, Daniel, were honored by the local chapter of the National Football Foundation. Their names remain on the group's website as one of the few sets of siblings to receive the scholar-athlete award. Doug decided when he was a sophomore in high school that he wanted to pursue a military career and never wavered from that decision.
He completed the Army's airborne school and ranger school and was briefly stationed in Alaska. In 2004, Doug finished captain's school and took command of 150 soldiers in the 1st Armored Division's Charlie Company.
Doug loved skiing and hiking, and worked summers as a playground counselor for the town's recreation department.

DiCenzo and the couple had a 16-month-old son, Dakin or "Dak", also surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his stepfather, Mark Burzynski, of Plymouth, NH; stepmother, Ann DiCenzo, of Charleston, and his younger brother, Daniel DiCenzo, of Williamstown, MA.
