John Christ Anthony, of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on the evening of May 31, 2009.

Born December 22, 1933 in Somerville, MA, he was the son of Christ Peter Anthony and Victoria Bekas Anthony.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country for nine years on active duty and three years in the Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant.

Once finished with his military service, John helped raise a family while pursuing a career primarily in sales, but he did operate his own solar tinting business, Reflecto Shield, for about five years. He eventually retired from the Automotive Industry in 1990. Also in 1990, John married the former Margaret "Peggy" Fettes and they moved to Charleston to let Peggy take a position with the Medical University of South Carolina in the nursing field. As they made their home on James Island, John began his second career as "Mr. Mom," as he became a father again of two young children. He enjoyed taking care of them and transporting them back and forth from practices, friends' homes, church, Greek school, and the public schools. He was a constant at their games, recitals, and performances and could always be heard above the other parents shouting encouragement and yelling "Opa!"

John was an avid golfer and all-around sports enthusiast. Originally from New England, he was a big Patriots fan and loved to display his "colors." He enjoyed a good debate with his friends about church affairs and politics; and like most Greek-Americans, he could make himself heard on a subject he was passionate about. He greeted everyone, male and female, with a firm hug and a kiss. Just a handshake would not do for him. John's voice was unique; you knew immediately if he was present nearby. He loved to serve his Lord through his church work and was a loyal member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #242, and a 32nd degree Master Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" Fettes Anthony and surviving, in addition to her, are three daughters, Alysia B. Anthony Conlan of Port Orange, FL, Patricia Margaret Anthony of Dayton Beach, FL, and Victoria Jean Anthony of Charleston; two sons, Stephen Douglas Anthony of Virginia Beach, VA and John Stephen Anthony of Charleston; two brothers, Peter C. Anthony of Chestnut Hill, MA and Ernest C. Anthony of Brockton, MA; ten grandchildren; and many dear friends.
