I had the pleasure of working with Pat for several years before he retired from law enforcement. He was a good and honorable man and it was such an honor to have been his friend. I know for a fact that if it had not been for Pat's heroic actions on the night of the Capitol fire that there would have been an additional death that night. Pat never received the recognition that he should have for risking his life for another that night. Pat was a true hero!

The following is Pat's obituary that was posted on the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home website:

Arthur G. Patterson, age 81 of Horseshoe Bay passed away February 28, 2011.

Arthur retired Capitol Police/Dept. of Public Safety. Arthur is the last surviving member of the rescue team from the Feb 6, 1983, Lt. Gov. Apartment fire in the Capitol.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Tommy P. and Edna Patterson, brothers; Neal, Andrew, Robert and RV.

Survivors include his sister, Clara Young, children; George Patterson of Austin, Brenda Smith of Burnet, Sandra Patterson of Horseshoe Bay, Karla Larson of Kingsland and Cindy Patterson of Brady; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
