Mr. Martin entered the Merchant Marine at the age of 16 for a year before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1947 and serving in the Korean War. After being discharged from the U.S. Air Force in 1952, he later joined the U.S. Army in 1955. Mr. Martin served in Vietnam in 1967. After retiring from the U.S. Army in 1972 as a Sergeant First Class, he joined the Capitol Police and later transferred to the Department of Public Safety, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by his six children: Peggy Guerra of Austin, Texas, Linda Harter of Waco, Texas, Michael Martin of Lexington, Texas, Sylvia Chase-Meadows of Lincoln, Texas, Paul Martin of Cameron, Texas, and Kelita Alberts of Lincoln, Texas. Mr. Martin is also survived by three siblings: Anna Calderwood, Ed Martin, and Elizabeth Titus.
Services were held with Military Honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
